Where are you?

You can find Outback Cycling at Red Centre Adventures, 1/2 Ghan Road, Alice Springs

How do I get there?

We are a 10-minutes walk from the CBD of Alice Springs. Alternatively taxi services operate in the area or you can contact Hi Oscar Rideshare.

Do I need to book?

Bookings are recommended, especially during winder and school holiday periods.

How long is the hire period?

All E-Bikes are hired for the day only if it is a one day hire. The bike must be returned by close of business.

Mountain bikes are hired for a 24 hour period as a one day hire.

Discounts come into effect once bikes are hired for more than 4 consecutive days.

What if I am late?

At our discretion, Outback Cycling has the right to refuse participation of late arrivals, however in most instances, an uninformed late arrival will simply result in the equivalent time forfeited from the hire period.  If telephone contact is made before the booking time, it is likely that an alternative time can be secured with no penalty.

What do I need to wear?

Ensure you wear clothing appropriate to cycling – we recommend comfortable, unrestrictive clothing, and closed-toe shoes.

What do I need to bring?

We recommend you bring water, sunscreen, sunglasses, a day backpack and your camera

What if my travel plans/itinerary change?

If we are advised by telephone of a change or cancellation with 48 hours notice or more, an alternative time will be provided, or a 50% refund will be provided.

If we are not advised (or a no show occurs), then any payment made is forfeited.

Is there any restrictions?  Height, weight, age, health, pregnancy?

The customer accepts sole responsibility for their health and safety at all times.  If medications (such as puffers, insulin, Epi pens etc) are required, ensure you have them with you.  We do not recommend you ride when pregnant – if you choose to do so, it is at your own risk.

If you have any questions or concerns, please notify the Outback Cycling employee on the ground.

Can I have a guide or map?

Guides are available with our customised guided tour options. See our Alice Springs tours page.

Do I need to be fit or a cyclist?

You do not need to be an experienced cyclist or a fitness fanatic to enjoy our bike hire experiences.  The beauty of bike hire is that you can explore Alice Springs at your own pace and in your own time.

What if something goes wrong with the bike – ex. flat tyre?

If you are hiring a bike from us, we can supply you with a spares kit containing a tube, tyre levers, multi-tool and pump (provided you know how to use it). This is a $20 cash deposit, which you will get back upon the kits return.

Alternatively, we do offer on track support (in the form of a bike repair or exchange), at a cost of $75.  Our ability to provide this service is at our discretion, and delays may occur.  Please ensure you store our office number in your phone for use of this service +61 8 8952 6120.

Where can I ride the bikes?

Our mountain bikes and Stealth E-Bikes can be ridden pretty much anywhere! Ensure you stay ON the trail if you are going off road. There are lots of prickles off the designated single-track.

Our Town Commuter E-Bikes are perfect for the excellent shared paths that will take you all the way around town, and to most of the popular tourist attractions.

How do I secure the bike if I want to eat/shop/look around?

We are happy to provide a lock with every bike hired so that it can be locked to permanent structures around town – however, this is done so at your own risk.  If locking the bike in a public access area, ensure it is in a well-lit position of high foot traffic.  If the bike is stolen whilst in your care, excess fees will apply ($500-$6000).  Alternatively, you may select to take out our excess saver option. At a one off cost of $10-$30 (dependant on bike), this will save you 50% on the applicable excess fee relating to your hire.

Do I ride on the paths or the roads?

It is legal for bikes to be ridden on the road in Australia, you must keep to the left whilst riding on the road and wear a helmet.

For your personal safety, we recommend you use the footpath where one is available and wear your helmet.

Can all the family join in? Do you have kids bikes?

At present, we do not have children’s bikes available for hire.

Our range of bikes are suitable for anyone 145cm or taller.

Do I have to wear a helmet?

The use of helmets is a legal requirement. Customers must wear a helmet on their head at all times when riding a bicycle.

What if the bike gets damaged/stolen?

Upon return of the bike, it will be inspected – charges will apply where damage is identified.

If you fail to return with the bike, or the bike is stolen whilst in your care, excess fees will apply ($500-$6000).  Alternatively, you may select to take out our excess saver option.  At a one off cost of $10-$30 (dependant on bike), this will save you 50% on the applicable excess fee relating to your hire.
